Same Boat Theater Collective's mission is to bring innovative, meaningful theatrical experiences about environmental issues to as diverse a local audience as possible, with the goal of generating a critical mass of individuals to act against environmental degradation. We aim to change the current narrative by telling stories about our bioregion, the Bay Area, for all species who live here.
We are starting by creating new works for the stage, written collaboratively by our members, that explore themes of environmental justice as it pertains to our lives in the Bay Area. We will expand into site-specific performances to allow audiences to connect sensually and emotionally with the natural world in conjunction with exploring stories about that world. And we will partner with communities to develop performance narratives to raise awareness, generate funds and resources, and engender activism. In this way, we seek to move audiences from passive observers to active environmentalists, and to bring to life the impacts of environmental degradation in a way that is theatrical, engaging, inclusive and immediately actionable.
